Baton’s Oceania voyage to continue in the Solomon Islands

HONIARA, 27 April 2010: The Queen's Baton 2010 Delhi will arrive in the Oceanic Island nation of the Solomon Islands on 27 April 2010. Next day, in Honiara city, the baton will visit the Japanese War Monument and United States War Monument during the course of the relay.


On 29 April, in Auki Township, the baton will be travel in a canoe from one of the villages to the provincial centre and will then be come back to Honiara.


On 30 April, in Gizo city, the baton will visit the areas washed away by the Tsunami and the Islands of the Western Province.


Solomon Islands is a country in Melanesia, east of Papua New Guinea, consisting of nearly one thousand islands. It covers a land mass of 28,400 square kilometre. The capital, Honiara, is located on the island of Guadalcanal.


The Solomon Islands first participated in the 1982 Commonwealth Games held in Brisbane, Australia. They have participated in all Games since the 1990 Auckland Games held in New Zealand.
