Queen’s Baton 2010 Delhi to begin its Asia journey from Singapore

SINGAPORE, 5 June 2010: The Queen’s Baton 2010 Delhi will start its Asian journey from Singapore on 5 June 2010. The baton will arrive in Singapore from Norfolk Island via Brisbane. Where it will attend an official welcome ceremony and will remain in the island nation for next two days.


Singapore is officially known as the Republic of Singapore. Singapore covers a total area of 699.1sq km with a population of 5 million. Singapore represents Asia in a nutshell and is a plural society comprising of multi-lingual, multi-ethnic and multi-religious people.


The country is also a highly cosmopolitan World City, with a key role in international trade and finance. The port of Singapore continues to be amongst the top five busiest ports in the world. Singapore will host the First Youth Olympic Games from 14 – 16 August 2010.


Singapore first participated in the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games held in Cardiff, Wales and is regularly participating in all Games since then.
