Queen’s Baton 2010 Delhi to visit the Abode of Peace, Brunei Darussalam

BRUNEI DARUSSALAM, 8 June 2010: The Queen’s Baton Relay 2010 Delhi will visit the Southeast Asian country Brunei Darussalam on 8 June 2010. On arrival the baton will attend a welcome dinner to be hosted by HRH Pengiran Muda Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President, Brunei Darussalam NOC.


The following day, it is proprosed that Royalty will commence the relay around the centre of Bandar Seri Begawan. The baton will then be taken on a unique boat ride around Water Village (Kampong Air) as Tambing Yayasan Sultan Hussanal Bolkian.


The baton will then visit various landmarks such as Bumbungan 12, Jalan Residency, Sultan Omar Ali’Saifuddin Mosque, Royal Regalia Building, House of Parliaments and many more. Thereafter, the baton will arrive at Stadium Negara after being relayed through the main streets by Batonbearers. In the evening, the baton will attend reception hosted by High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam.


On 10 June 2010, the baton will be on public display at the Mall for the public to view.


Brunei Darussalam is a country located on the north coast of the island of Borneo, in Southeast Asia. Apart from its coastline with the South China Sea it is completely surrounded by the state of Sarawak, Malaysia, and in fact it is separated into two parts by Limbang, which is part of Sarawak. It is the only sovereign state completely on the island of Borneo, with the remainder of the island belonging to Malaysia and Indonesia.


Brunei Darussalam is a fusion of majestic opulence and traditional respect. Bandar Seri Begawan is the centre of Brunei’s commerce, finance and government. Bandar Seri Begawan’s has lavish adornments, gold towers, sparkling fountains and colourful mosaic tiles.


Brunei Darussalam first participated in 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games held in Cardiff, Wales. It has participated regularly in all Games since 1990 Commonwealth Games held in Auckland New Zealand.
