Queen’s Baton 2010 Delhi to visit Truly Asia, Malaysia

MELAKA, 11 June 2010: The Queen’s Baton 2010 Delhi will arrive in Malaysian city of Melaka on 11 June 2010. Melaka (Malacca) is located on the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia facing the Straits of Malacca, about 147 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur.  On the 7 July 2008, Melaka was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Cities List under "Historic Cities in the Straits of Malacca".


The following day, 12 June 2010 the baton will relay around the historical town of Malacca, as part of the Malaysian Games celebrations. The Chief Minister of Malacca State and/or Minister of Youth and Sports will attend the event. Later, the baton will travel to the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.


On 13 June 2010, the relay will commence a Fun Run at Independence Square in Kuala Lampur.


Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy in Southeast Asia consisting of thirteen states and three federal territories, with a total landmass of 329,845 square kilometres. The capital city is Kuala Lumpur, while Putrajaya is the seat of the federal government. The population stands at over 28 million.


Malaysia first participated in 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games held in Kingston, Jamaica. Malaysia has participated in all Commonwealth Games since 1990 Games held in Auckland, New Zealand.
