Dominica celebrates Queen's Baton Relay 2010 Delhi

DOMINICA, 16 March 2010: The people of the Commonwealth of Dominica enjoyed their day-out with the Queen's Baton 2010 Delhi. The relay’s second day in the country comprised of a morning relay of 10 student Batonbearers accompanied by 4 escorts runners each and then an afternoon relay of 10 athlete Batonbearers accompanied by 4 escorts runners each, with the finale being a hour long cultural performance at the national stadium ending in fireworks.

 

In the morning, the baton team made a courtesy call with the President Dr. Nicholas J.O. Liverpool, 10 school students relayed the baton around the city from school to school carrying the symbol of the CGF and the Delhi 2010 Games. School children were delighted to see the Games Mascot, Shera.

 

Later, 10 athletes carried the baton from the airport to Windsor Park Stadium and a Cultural Gala was staged at the stadium with different cultural groups with the President, Sport Minister and Mayor in attendance. Highlights of the Gala included:  Belly dance; Creative Dance featuring the Commonwealth Games colours; Sakis Sensay Presentation with Lapo Cabrit; Miss Dominica and Miss Teenage Dominica; Bwa Bwa with Stilz Walkers; singers and dancers and fireworks.
