Samaresh Jung and mascot Shera draw great response in Delhi school

NEW DELHI: Samaresh Jung, who won the David Dixon Award for being the best athlete in the Commonwealth Games 2006 Melbourne, and Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi mascot Shera visited the Vasant Valley School on Tuesday as part of the school initiative programme for Delhi 2010.

“I am extremely glad to see so many children, who were very happy to see Shera. This was a very important activity since these children are the ones who will grow up and remember the Games. You never know, there might be another champion in them,” said Samaresh Jung, who is one of the six Brand Ambassadors for Delhi 2010.

He exuded confidence about India’s prospects in shooting in next month’s Commonwealth Games. “India is a very strong contender in shooting. There are other teams like England, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and other countries. We really don't need strong teams, we need just one strong contender and this competition is won.”

Shera was greeted by the students with great enthusiasm. They were very excited to see the mascot and they made several paintings representing the Games.
