Inaugural Green Games Environment Subcommittee Meeting – Release of Pune Games Sustainability Report

New Delhi: The inaugural meeting of the Green Games Environment Subcommittee was held on 15 July 2009 where The Pune Games sustainability report was released by Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, Chairman, Organising Committee Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi and Dr. Shashi Tharoor, (Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of External Affairs and Chairman of the Green Games Environment Subcommittee. Ms. Nafisa Ali and Mr. Ranjit Barthakur, Vice Chairman of the Green Games Environment Subcommittee and other members of the subcommittee were also present.  

The Green Games Environment Subcommittee is chaired by Dr. Shashi Tharoor.  Dr. R. K. Pachauri, Chairman, intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC is the advisor of the subcommittee, Mr. Ajay Sharma, Director, ASSOCHAM and Mr. Ranjit Barthakur, Green Sports Consortium, are vice chairmen. The other members of the SubCommittee are Chief Secretary, GNCTD; Principal Advisor (CWG) GNCTD; Chairman of NDMC; Commissioner of MCD; CEO of Delhi Jal Board; Director of Energy Environment Policy Division, TERI; Secretary, Department of Environment, GNCTD; Advisor, Ministry of Environment and Forest; Director General of Bureau of Energy Efficiency; Ex-Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy; Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy; ODS to Lt. Governor; Director General, World Institute of Sustainable Energy (WISE); and Secretary, Ministry of Environment of Forest.

 

The Green Games and Environment Sub Committee has been formed to advice the Organising Committee Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi on matters relating to sustainability and environmental aspects of the games. The Executive management communicates with the concerned functional areas and other stakeholders to ensure that all their needs are met in formulation of strategies and policies for the successful delivery of Green Games.
