England's Brickell scores upset victory in Men's Skeet Singles

Richard Brickell (ENG) clinched his first title in the Men's Skeet Singles by edging out defending champion Georgios Achilleos (CYP) after a shoot-off at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range on Wednesday.

Brickell shot well in Stage Two of the Qualification Rounds in the morning and was seeded second for the finals. The Englishman was consistent, scoring 23 out of a possible 25 in the session to finish with a total score of 144.

However, Achilleos, who qualified sixth, showed why he is the world No.3 with a near-perfect performance, missing only one target in the final session, to also score 144.

In the ensuing shoot-off for Gold, Brickell triumphed despite missing his fifth target. Achilleos missed his sixth and eighth and had to settle for Silver.

A shoot-off was also needed to decide the Bronze position after Andreas Chasikos (CYP), Clive Bramley (ENG) and Drew Christie (SCO) all finished with a score of 143.

Chasikos who had qualified first for the final, held his nerve to clinch the medal. - GNS
